Absolutely—acclimatising your wood flooring is one of the most important steps before installation. Wood is naturally responsive to changes in temperature and humidity, so giving it time to adjust to your home’s environment will help prevent problems like warping, gapping, or buckling later on.
For engineered wood flooring, leave the unopened packs flat in the room where they’ll be laid for 48 to 72 hours. For solid wood flooring, you’ll need to wait at least 7 days, as solid wood is more sensitive to environmental changes.
Make sure the room is kept at a normal living temperature (18°C to 24°C) with a relative humidity between 45% and 65%. Avoid placing the packs near radiators, direct sunlight, or damp areas.
This small step goes a long way in ensuring a smooth installation and a floor that will last beautifully for years to come.
