Is engineered wood flooring suitable for underfloor heating?

Engineered wood flooring is widely considered the best timber flooring option for underfloor heating — but only when used with water-based systems. The construction of engineered boards makes them more stable under changing temperatures than solid wood, meaning less risk of warping or gapping.

We do not recommend using engineered flooring with electric underfloor heating systems, as they can cause rapid temperature fluctuations that stress the wood. Water-based systems, on the other hand, offer a gentler, more consistent heat output, which is ideal for timber products.

To protect your floor and maintain your warranty, always:

• Use a compatible underlay
• Ensure the maximum floor surface temperature does not exceed 27°C
• Allow the boards to acclimatise before installation
• Gradually increase the heating after fitting
