To calculate how much flooring you need, start by measuring the length and width of each room in metres. Multiply the two numbers to get the area in square metres (m²).
For example: Room size: 4m x 5m = 20m²
Then add extra for wastage:
Straight plank flooring: Add 5–10%
Herringbone, chevron, or diagonal patterns: Add 10–15%
This covers offcuts, mistakes, and future repairs.
Quick Tips:
Round up to the nearest whole pack when ordering
Measure odd-shaped rooms in sections and add them together
Always double-check if product listings are per pack or per m²
Getting the right amount avoids delays, mismatched batches, and costly reorders. If you’re unsure, most flooring suppliers (like us!) are happy to help calculate based on your room plans.
