One of the main benefits of solid oak flooring is its ability to be sanded and refinished multiple times throughout its lifespan. You'll know it's time for a refresh when the surface looks dull, has visible scratches, or when water droplets no longer bead on the finish — a sign that the protective layer has worn away.
Refinishing typically involves sanding back the top layer and applying a fresh coat of oil or lacquer. Depending on the thickness of your boards and the level of wear, solid wood can be refinished up to 4–5 times, allowing your floor to look like new even after years of use.
