Description

The Glanwell Natural Oak collection brings together timeless rustic charm and modern engineering. If you love the look of a time-worn country cottage floor but need the stability and convenience suitable for 21st-century living (including underfloor heating), this is your floor.

Each plank is crafted from select European oak, showcasing a rustic grade that celebrates the wood's journey. Expect to see closed knots, subtle colour variation, and natural grain markings – no two boards are ever the same.

The brushing process removes the soft wood fibres, leaving the beautiful grain raised, you can feel the wood underfoot.

Scratches happen. With an oiled floor, localised scratches can be sanded and re-oiled without refinishing the entire room. Oiled surfaces also don't show dust or footprints as easily as high-gloss lacquers.

The 3mm wear layer means this floor can be sanded and refinished up to twice over its lifetime—ideal if you plan to stay in your home for 10+ years.

At 14.3mm total thickness, this isn't a budget engineered board. The multi-ply plywood core provides exceptional dimensional stability, resisting expansion and contraction far better than solid wood. This makes the Glanwell Natural Oak suitable for installation over underfloor heating systems (electric or water) – just follow the manufacturer's guidelines.

Installation is straightforward. Each board is manufactured with a tongue and groove profile, so each board can simply be glued together. This engineered oak is typically installed as a floating floor with a 3mm underlay on the subfloor, providing protection from dampness and serving as a sound barrier and insulator. Due to the stability of our engineered flooring products, laying the flooring in rooms heated with water-based underfloor heating is not a problem. Our 4mm Compressed Rubber Underlay is suitable for water-based underfloor heating.

If you have pets, are worried about stains, or are fitting a bathroom, we recommend a lacquered or varnished finish instead – it is more hardwearing and spill-resistant. An oiled finish requires occasional maintenance (every 2-3 years) but is easier to spot-repair.

Why We Love It

We love the Glanwell Natural Ok oiled and brushed, its  a huge favorite in our showroom and a top seller because of its real wood touch and grain, it’s a joy to fit thanks to its simple tongue and groove. Chris or Product Expert Loves the Glanwell because;

  • Pet Friendly: Brushed texture helps disguise claw marks
  • Child Friendly: Rustic grade hides inevitable dings and dents
  • Spill Resistant (with care): Hard wax oil finish – wipe up liquids promptly
  • Easy Spot Repairs: Sand and re-oil localised damage without refinishing the whole floor

Customer Questions

What is engineered wood flooring?
Engineered wood is real wood on top, with stable layers beneath.
Do I need to acclimatise my wood flooring before fitting?
Yes, you must acclimatise your wood flooring before installation. For engineered wood, allow 48–72 hours; for solid wood, give it at least 7 days. Keep the packs flat, unopened, and in a room with stable conditions.
Can I install wood flooring over underfloor heating?
Yes, you can install wood flooring over underfloor heating—but it must be a water-based system. Never use electric underfloor heating with wood flooring, as it can overheat and damage the boards.
Do I need expansion gaps when fitting wood flooring?
Yes, always leave an expansion gap of 10–15mm around the perimeter of your wood flooring. This allows the wood to expand and contract naturally with changes in temperature and humidity.
Can engineered wood flooring be sanded?
Yes, engineered wood flooring can be sanded, but only if the top wear layer is thick enough—usually at least 3mm. Thinner layers may not allow for sanding without damage.
